this book changed my life

As I read this book I realized how fortunate I was to live in time of history where their is not as much racism in or country. There is not as many people like the racist people in Maycomb that want innocent people suffer for the color of their skin. Like when one if the Maycomb citizens said "...Atticus aims to defend him. That's what i don't like about it."(163)

As a minority I know how it feels to have someone assume something about you because of the color of your skin. Even though my experiences are not as bad as Tom Robinsons I know that being a minority can be hard sometimes. There are people in are world that think they are better then others because of their skin color and I hope that these people will someday realize that we are all equal in gods eyes.

life lessons

One important lesson that Jem and Scout learned was when Tom was convicted and Atticus said "They've done it before and they did it tonight and they'll do it again . . ."(213) when Atticus told them this Scout and Jem learned that life isn't always kind and can be cruel. I believe this is an important lesson to learn because if you do not except this fact then you will be living in a dream world.

Excepting this fact can also make you a stronger person. I know this to be true because when I learned my mother would most likly never walk again. I thought the world was a cruel and unfair place. But as time passed i excepted that the world was not always a kind place i became a stonger person.

themes

I think the theme of this book is racism and people being prejudice. One example of this theme is during Tom Robinson's trial. The evidence proves that Tom Robinson is innocent and that Bob Ewell was the one who phisicaly asulted Mayella, but the jury still said that tom was guilty. This happened because the jury was prejudice against Tom and the jury would believe Mayella over Tom because Mayella is white and Tom is black. There is a lot racism in maycome and i found this to be true when atticuss said "they've done it before and they did it tonight they'll do it again" after Tom was wrongfully accused.(213)

Another instant in the book were rasicm or people being prejudice was shown was when Scout and Jem went to Cal's church. Lula, one of Cal's church's members, didn't like Scout and Jem being there. racism isn't just shown by white people in the book. Lula is prejudice against white people and i came to this conclusion when Lula said "you ain't got no business bringin' white chillun here-they got their church, we got our'n."(119)

Atticus as a father

Atticus is the type father that does not really care what you do as long as you are not hurting anyone. This is proven when Atticus tells Scout and Jem that they can shoot all the blue birds they want but they can't shoot mockingbirds with their new air guns. Atticuss lets Jem and Scout shoot birds but he but he will not let them hurt anything innocent. I found this to be true when Miss Maudie said "Mockingbirds don't do one thing but make music for us to enjoy. They don't eat up peoples gardens, don't nest in corncribs, they don't do one thing but sing their hearts out for us."(90)

Atticus is like my parents in someways but he is mostly different. My dad is closer to Atticus then my mother. Since my parents are devorced my dad has not gotten mad at me at all other then times I really was asking for. My mom is different though. She is really stict and gets mad at me for a lot of reasons but mainly over my school work. If I had a parent like Atticus I am not really sure if I would like it or not. I would most likly prefer my parents.
